male filmmakers

click to view photo in its entirety. this photograph will hopefully be the first in a series exploring the usually faceless male filmmakers of hollywood cinema. Inspired by research on Cindy Sherman and her Untitled Film Stills series, I wanted to play with the role of actress and director a bit more directly and thoughtfully. Though Cindy Sherman's photographs helped to give vehicle to feminist thought and the critical art world, I personally feel like she stumbled unknowingly into . Her Untitled Film Stills series, coincided with the sexual revolution and commented on hollywood's perpetuation of the demure female, vanitas and other feminine stereotypes. I am still working on a statement for this particular piece.
